~ŞEKERPARE~
Şekerpare is a traditional Turkish dessert made with semolina. It means “a piece of sweet” in Old Turkish and I really like the soft, crumbly texture of this amazing dessert.
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Ingredients for the dough:
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup semolina
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 125 g butter
- 1 tsp baking powder
- (+ hazelnuts)
- Make the sirup: pour water and sugar in a pot and let it boil for 15 min. Then add lemon juice and let the sirup cool down.
- Combine butter, flour, semolina, sugar, egg and baking powder. Knead the dough well with your hands.
- Preheat the oven at 180°C.
- Form the cookies (walnut sized pieces) and placed them on a baking sheet. Additional add hazelnuts on their tops.
- Bake the cookies for 20-25 min in the preheated oven.
- Put the cookies out of the oven and let them cool down 1-2 min. Then put the warm cookies for 5 sec in the sirup to let them soak. Pour the leftover sirup over the cookies. Skanaus!
