French onion pie by Camille


 In this time of quarantine, we can at least have lot of time to improve and discover new dishes. I am a french volunteer and today i want to share with you a recipe from my country, especially coming from Alsace city. In France we have a lot of pie recipes! I like it because it’s easy to make and delicious. I also choose this pie because it s not too expensive and vegetarian.

For this recipe you can cook it with old famous french music! I can suggest you Joe Dassin, Jacques Dutronc, Charles Aznavour, France Gall...

For this recipe you will need:

3 eggs

3 big spoons of sour cream

600 grams of onions 

1 teaspoon of nutmeg

salt and pepper

Grated cheese for the top of the pie if you like

For the pastry:

250 grams of flour

100 grams of butter

1/2 teapoon of salt

8 centilitres of water

1 tablespoon of olive oil

Baking paper


Recipe:

Preheat oven at 145 degrees

.First, let’s make the pastry:

In a bowl, put the flour and the soft butter cut into pieces. 

Knead the dough with your hands, then add water and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

Mix with your hands until its forms a compact ball and save the ball for later.





. Now the onions:

Cut the onions into rings and put it in a pan with oil.

With medium heat, add a pinch of salt and pepper. Add a 1/2 cup of water and cover it. Cook it for 5 to 10 minutes:



During the cooking of onions you can mix eggs and sour cream with 1 teaspoon of nutmeg, 2 pinch of salt salt and pepper in a bowl:



Add the onions to the mixture:



Take a pie dish and put on baking paper and roll out the shortcut pastry:



 You can add on the top some grated cheese.

Then add the mixture, and put in the oven during 45 50 minutes.

Take it out of the oven and cut into 4 6 or 8 according to your appetite!
